Stephen Curry and LeBron James are two of the most prestigious players of the current generation. With a gap of 6 years between the two players entering the league, Curry and James have been competing for almost a decade and have dominated the rest of the league.
Since 2015, Curry or LeBron (2021) has been the only NBA Finals matchup to exclude either. The pair are series winners and have faced each other in the final four times in a row. LeBron has had the greatest success of all time, but now that Curry has tied LeBron to the title, many are wondering which of the two has been better in the last 10 years.
Bill Simmons decided to answer this question by observing the performance of both players over the last 10 years. He gives LeBron a slight edge, but admits that Curry’s argument is better than anyone might have assumed.
“Was Curry the best player of the last 10 years? People would say he was LeBron, but now we have Curry’s full decade. 2013-2022. In those years LeBron is 3-4 in the finals, while Curry is 4-2. ) Made first-team, 1 second-team, and 2 third-team, one of which he did not qualify for. Curry made 4 first-team, 3 second-team and one third-team. And 16.9k for Steph. Win the shares, LeBron.
“If I had written it all down, it would have been much closer than I expected. I would have assumed it was just LeBron, but I think it’s just a hair LeBron. But it’s really close, I was surprised.”
It is a prestigious event in the NBA that many will remember even after retirement. Curry has already ascended the all-time three-point throne, but the final scoring record will soon be set if LeBron overtakes Karim Abdul-Jabbar in all-time scoring.
These are legends from generation to generation and should be appreciated. LeBron has played more basketball than Curry so far, so his overall performance will make people more inclined to pick him. But until he retires, Curry could get very close to LeBron in this conversation.
